Gary HAYENGA

Gary has been fencing for over 40 years, starting at Iowa State University in the 1980’s, earning A ratings in Foil and Epee and National Points in both many times.  In the mid-90’s he opened his own club in Milwaukee and then he met his wife and followed her back to Michigan where he began fencing with the Ann Arbor Dueling Society.  After retiring from fencing in the late 2000s, he returned to competition on the Veteran circuit 10 years later after retiring from his career as a computer programmer.  In 2022, he qualified for the U.S. Veteran World Championship team and placed 13th at the 2022 Veteran World Championships. He began coaching at PA2FA when it opened and enjoys showing both young children and teenagers the intricacies of fencing and how much fun it is.
